Jake Arditti

Джейк Ардитти

Opera singer, countertenor

Biography

English countertenor. His father is violinist Irvine Arditti, founder of the Arditti Quartet, and his mother is renowned Mexican composer Hilda Paredes. The singer's professional career began in childhood — at the age of 11, he performed the role of Yniold in Debussy's 'Pelléas et Mélisande' at the Glyndebourne Festival. As an adult, he graduated from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and the Opera School at the Royal College of Music. In 2012, he became a finalist and received a special prize at the International Baroque Singing Competition in Innsbruck, after which he immediately began receiving offers from prestigious opera houses.

He has performed title roles in Handel's 'Rinaldo', 'Serse', and 'Riccardo Primo'; as well as the roles of Sesto ('Giulio Cesare'), David ('Saul'), Nerone ('Agrippina'), Otniel ('Joshua'); and Nerone in Monteverdi's 'L'incoronazione di Poppea'. He has also sung roles in such rare operas as Traetta's 'Antigona' (Vienna Chamber Opera), Cavalli's 'Elena' (Aix-en-Provence Festival, Lille, Lisbon), Legrenzi's 'La divisione del mondo' (Strasbourg, Mulhouse, Colmar, Nancy, Versailles, Cologne), Francesco Corselli's 'Achille in Sciro' (Teatro Real de Madrid), and Leonardo Vinci's 'Alessandro nell'Indie' (Bayreuth Baroque Festival).

Beyond the baroque repertoire, he has performed roles such as Hansel in Humperdinck's 'Hänsel und Gretel', the Voice of Apollo in Britten's 'Death in Venice', Prince Go-Go in Ligeti's 'Le Grand Macabre', and the vocal solo in Max Richter's chamber opera 'Sum'.

Jake Arditti demonstrates equally impressive versatility on the concert stage: from the role of Ernesto in Vinci's 'Sigismondo, re di Polonia' and Pergolesi's 'Stabat Mater' to concert programs such as 'Countertenors' with the baroque ensemble Il Pomo d'Oro and 'From Soul to Soul' with the Turkish Pera Ensemble. He has taken part in the premiere of his mother Hilda Paredes's song cycle 'Canciones lunáticas' and Salvatore Sciarrino's 'Cosa resta' with the Arditti Quartet. In 2022, he performed Olga Neuwirth's song cycle 'Hommage à Klaus Nomi' at the Paris Philharmonie and the Strasbourg Conservatory.
