Biography

American opera singer of Mexican origin, tenor.

Born in 1983 in Las Vegas, Nevada. In 2012, he graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles. He trained in the young artist programmes of Los Angeles Opera and Santa Fe Opera. During his residency at Los Angeles Opera, he stepped in on a week's notice to replace a colleague as Count Almaviva in John Corigliano's 'The Ghosts of Versailles'. At Los Angeles Opera, he also performed the roles of the Greenhorn ('Moby-Dick' by Jake Heggie), Macduff ('Macbeth'), Steve Hubbell ('A Streetcar Named Desire' by André Previn), and Norman ('Lucia di Lammermoor').

In America, he has performed at Santa Fe Opera, San Diego Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Florida Grand Opera, as well as at the Canadian Opera Company and in Caracas, Venezuela.

Guerrero's European debut took place at the Opéra National de Bordeaux as Gabriele Adorno ('Simon Boccanegra'). Since then, the singer has become a frequent guest on many European stages. He has performed at the Zurich Opera, Bavarian State Opera, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Oper Frankfurt, English National Opera, Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Dutch National Opera, Teatro de la Maestranza (Seville), Teatro Real in Madrid, and at the Glyndebourne Festival. In 2022, he made his debut at the Paris National Opera as Rodolfo ('La bohème').

Guerrero's repertoire includes such roles as Edgardo ('Lucia di Lammermoor'), Nemorino ('L'elisir d'amore'), Alfred Germont ('La traviata'), the Duke of Mantua ('Rigoletto'), Cavaradossi ('Tosca'), Des Grieux ('Manon Lescaut'), Pinkerton ('Madama Butterfly'), Rodolfo ('La bohème'), and others.

He is a Grammy Award winner for the recording of the opera 'The Ghosts of Versailles' (role of Count Almaviva). He holds second prize at the Plácido Domingo Operalia competition (2014) and the Richard Tucker Award (2016).
